Colombo 03 (Kollupitiya)
Overview
For the discerning and weary holiday maker visiting Colombo, probably no other city offers more variety, dining and entertainment options than Kollupitya aka Colpetty. The area numbered Colombo 03 is one of Colombo’s most popular business cum residential districts, housing many organisations ranging from large conglomerates to banks, IT companies, government institutions, diplomatic offices and hotels. Luxury condominiums and apartment complexes are also aplenty in Kollupitiya.
The 5-star Cinnamon Grand is probably Kollupitiya’s iconic property while other hotels such as Hotel Renuka, Hotel Juliana and the Indra Regent are also popular hotels in Kollupitiya. The city houses plenty of restaurants, food courts, fast food outlets and more. For the more nocturnal visitors, Kollupitiya also features plenty of watering holes, pubs and bars as well as night clubs, karaoke lounges and casinos.
Kollupitiya’s Liberty Plaza was for many years Sri Lanka’s only up-market shopping mall, housing many stores featuring local and international brands. The recently opened Liberty Arcade adjoining Liberty Plaza offers a similar sort of shopping experience in Colombo 03. The trendy and chic shopping mall, Crescat Boulevard features many shops offering local and international brands, designer wear, a kiddies’ games arcade, cyber café and an ever-bustling food court.
Galle Face Green
Sri Lanka, being an island, is known for her amazing beaches and views of the sea. However, in Colombo, it isn’t always easy to find a place where you can enjoy the crashing of the waves and most of all, an undisturbed view of the sunset. Galle Face Green thus attracts a large number of people, especially during the evening, although it is rarely empty, even in the afternoon when there is very little shelter from the scorching sun.
